2021 IPL auction expected on February 11: Reports

According to reports, the 2021 IPL auction is likely to happen on February 11, with the board zeroing on January 20 as the date when the teams will submit their list of retained and released players.

The Indian Premier League first planned to add one more team to the roster for the 2021 edition but later had to shelve the plan due to the short time available. With the pandemic situation not yet subsidizing in the country, there is a huge task at hand thus they have decided to go ahead and host a regular eight-team event.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the 2021 IPL auction is likely to be held on February 11 and a final decision regarding the same was taken yesterday by the IPL Governing Council which met virtually on Monday. The auction will be a day-long affair and although there has been no decision yet on the venue, it will happen during the gap between the first and second Test matches between India and England.

2021 IPL not confirmed to be in India

After the BCCI announced Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Pune as the venues for the series against England, it was expected that the Indian Premier League will be played in India. However, the report stated that a three-person panel, headed by IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel, is still taking stock of the matter.

They are not yet certain if India can conduct matches on a home-and-away basis with pandemic throwing various challenges. Although one school of thought exists that the tournament can be organized at few venues which would entail minimal travel for teams.
