Adam Zampa takes sly dig at Michael Vaughan after Australia’s memorable T20 World Cup win

Share

As Australian men’s side were crowned T20 World Cup champions for the very first time in their history on Sunday (November 14), their lead spinner Adam Zampa took an indirect jibe at Michael Vaughan.

Australia made a mockery of Vaughan’s pre-tournament prediction where the former England skipper gave Aaron Finch & company no chance of winning the trophy.

Thus, in the aftermath of Australia’s memorable win over New Zealand in the final in Dubai, Zampa made a point to take a dig at Vaughan, phrasing his comments beneath his team’s celebration picture over Instagram.

Adam Zampa takes aim at Michael Vaughan as Australia proves England skipper wrong

In his assessment, Michael Vaughan had said he doesn’t give Australia “much chance” as they’ve “struggled” in T20Is. The cricketer turned commentator felt England, India, West Indies, New Zealand and Pakistan stand a better chance to end with the T20 World Cup trophy.

But with Australia proving Vaughan absolutely wrong with his prediction, Adam Zampa fired a shot at him without even mentioning the ex player’s name.

To be fair to Vaughan, though, hardly anyone gave Australia a chance to finish with the T20 World Cup title. The team from Down Under had suffered heavy losses to West Indies and Bangladesh in the build-up to the tournament and had many doubting their credentials on spin-friendly tracks in UAE.

But Australia showed that they could never be taken lightly. Their champion mentality came to the fore as the Aussies conceded only one game despite being part of a tough Super 12 group along with South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and clinched impressive wins over Pakistan and New Zealand in the knock-out stage.

Adam Zampa was one of the stars of their great run, finishing the competition with 13 wickets and an economy rate of only 5.81. The skiddy wristspinner enjoyed bowling on tracks in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and apart from an off-day against England, dominated the opposition batting.
