Even as Afghanistan cricket stands plagued with multiple off-field issues, the war-torn country’s raw young talent continues to prosper.

Afghanistan’s U-19 team is currently in Bangladesh where, though the tourists have found winning against the hosts an arduous task, quite a few of their promising youngsters have been showcasing their skill level and impressing the selectors and the team management.

One of these emerging talents is a left-arm pacer Faisal Khan Ahmadzai, who on Tuesday (September 14) got his first opportunity of the ongoing five-match youth one-dayer series against the Bangladesh U-19s in Sylhet.

Faisal Khan Ahmadzai is Afghanistan’s U-19 fast bowling sensation.

Immediately making an impact, Ahmadzai delivered a fantastic ten-over spell of 3/39, troubling the home team batters with his pace and hostility. The most impressive aspect of Ahmadzai’s bowling being his ability to swing the ball into and away from the batsman.

The young quick got the ball talking in the third match of the youth 50-over fixture of the series and helped Afghanistan U-19 restrict Bangladesh U-19 to a score of 222/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

While Faisal Khan Ahmadzai got three scalps on the day, the best of the lot arrived in his very first over. Bowling to Bangladesh U-19 opener Prantik Nawrose Nabil, 16-year-old Ahmadzai got him bowled with an outstanding inswinging yorker.

Nabil, the left-hand batsman, had basically no answer to the delivery from the Afghan speedster as he played for the initial line of the ball before it swung back late into him and left him completely bamboozled at the crease.

By the time Nabil could complete his downswing, the ball from Ahmadzai had sneaked through the gap between his inside edge and his front pad and he was made to look clueless by the left-arm seamer.

Moments after he got the wicket, Faisal Khan Ahmadzai raced up to the other end and unleashed his anger on the batsman with a couple of fist-pumps before joining his teammates to celebrate the breakthrough at the start of the innings.
