WATCH: Alastair Cook runs in from mid-off to bowl some dibbly dobbly medium pace

Sir Alastair Cook has been away from international Cricket for over three years now, but he continues to mesmerize at the County level, either by batting out days or as he has been doing lately, with his bowling. In the second division County game between Essex and Surrey, the Chef delighted the crowd with some medium pace at the Kia Oval.

Batting first, Essex mounted a huge total courtesy of Alastair Cook’s brilliant 165. Dan Lawrence chipped in with a handy 78-run contribution, which saw Essex reach 439 before getting bowled out. Surrey, led by South African legend Hashim Amla, could only manage 161 runs in their first innings, out of which the skipper had scored 84. The follow-on was enforced to sneak out a result, but Surrey batters just about to cling on long enough.

With the result almost a certainty (draw), both sides were staring at the end of this contest before Sir Alastair Cook gave his cap to the umpire and marked his run-up. He bowled just one over, but that alone was as eventful as one could’ve asked for. He produced some medium pacers that barely qualifies as medium pace, got hammered for a boundary, but conceded just five runs eventually off Ollie Pope and Amla.

The last ball of his over, he came in from mid-off to emulate the stuff Bob Willis used to, that sparked the loudest cheer from the crowd. Here’s the video of the over he delivered.

Alastair Cook and Hashim Amla among the runs in County cricket

Despite quitting the game a while back, the effervescent touch that Alastair Cook is known for, is in action as profoundly as it always was. He scored 593 runs this season, whilst one of his most fierce counterparts during their international days, Hashim Amla has chipped in with a whopping 831-run tally this season. The veterans may have hung up their boots internationally, but they are keen on continuing professionally for a little longer.
