Preview for AUS vs SL Dream11 Contest:

Australia will be taking on Sri Lanka in the two teams’ next Super 12 encounter of T20 World Cup 2021 this Thursday (October 28) in Dubai.

The Aussies are heading into the contest after an impressive victory over South Africa in Abu Dhabi in their previous game, while Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in another close-fought fixture in Sharjah.

This game in Dubai will be about Sri Lanka’s spin threat coming up against Australia’s lengthy batting unit in a battle that would derail the tournament progress for the losers and further push the winners towards the semis.

Another exciting aspect of the game is the contest between Australia’s pace battery and Sri Lanka’s inexperienced but promising young batting unit.

Probable Playing XI

Australia – Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Sri Lanka – Kusal Perera (wk), Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara

Weather Update: Clear skies; 27 degrees C; 13 km/h

Pitch Report: The track in Dubai has played directly proportional to the quality of the batting involved. West Indies’ struggles with the bat have made the track look tougher than it is, but then in the India-Pakistan game, we saw Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and then Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan perform so well. The surface tends to play a touch slower in the first half but then quickens up, especially in the night because of dew. It’s a good pitch that has played quite true for stroke-making against both spin and pace.

AUS vs SL Dream11 Prediction

Can Sri Lanka continue their winning run in the AUS vs SL encounter?

For Sri Lanka, much will depend on how quickly their second mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana recovers from his injury. If Theekshana is back to partner with Wanindu Hasaranga through the middle overs, then Sri Lanka’s bowling looks automatically stronger and that would mean Australian batting having its work cut out. However, if the Aussies could handle the Lankan spinners well, they can then exploit the chinks in their oppositions’ pace attack and batting department. Expected an interesting contest, where Australia may just have an edge due to their greater robustness.

AUS vs SL Dream11 Captaincy Picks

1. Glenn Maxwell (10 credits)

Glenn Maxwell becomes an easy captaincy choice considering his form and dangerous allround ability heading into this T20 World Cup. The cricketer had arguably his most fruitful IPL season since 2014 with RCB before joining the Aussie camp. The unorthodox right-hander maintained a strike-rate of 143.56 while averaging 48.33 during the UAE leg of IPL 2021 in challenging conditions. In Australia’s opening game versus South Africa, Maxwell could make only 18 runs but he bowled a miserly spell in the first half, conceding just 1/24 off his 4 overs.

2. Wanindu Hasaranga (9.5 credits)

It shows Hasaranga’s impact and influence that the day he faltered with the ball, the rest of the Sri Lankan attack also failed miserably and conceded an above par score against Bangladesh. But during the preliminary round of the tournament, the mystery spinner and capable middle-order bat showcased his allround prowess. Hasaranga still has an economy rate of only 5.28 from his 4 outings. He played a crucial counter-attacking knock of 72 versus Ireland when Sri Lanka were reeling at 8/3.

3. Josh Hazlewood (8.5 credits)

Hazlewood, the tall right-arm quick, has proven many of his doubters wrong since the start of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021. The pacer bowled a very impressive spell of 2/19 in the win over South Africa, having taken 11 scalps from his nine outings for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in this year’s IPL with an economy rate of 8.37. In the final in Dubai against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Hazlewood bowled a spell of 2/29 in a high-scoring game. The form and rhythm that he has been in and the way he has taken a liking to the surfaces in UAE, Hazlewood is a good captaincy option.

AUS vs SL Dream11 Budget Picks

1. Charith Asalanka (8.5 credits)

Sri Lanka’s middle-order batter Asalanka was pivotal to his team’s victory over Bangladesh in Sharjah, scoring an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls to help the Island nation navigate through a tough run-chase on a dry pitch. Asalanka could be a really handy budget pick, keeping in mind his form and influence on his side.

2. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (8.5 credits)

The other Sri Lankan hero with the bat in their win against Bangladesh was Rajapaksa, who made a vital 53 off just 31 balls and stitched a magnificent stand with Asalanka during the stiff chase of 172 runs. Rajapaksa has been making useful runs for Sri Lanka since the start of the competition. He has a strike-rate of 157.37 with an average of 48 in the T20 World Cup so far.

3. Pat Cummins (8.5 credits)

Cummins made an iffy start with the ball against South Africa but returned well to end with figures of just 1/17 off his 4 overs on what was his comeback to the international stage after an extended gap since March. Cummins has a terrific record to his name in the T20Is, having taken 38 wickets from his 31 games with an economy rate of only 6.84.
