AUS vs SL Live Match Preview:

Having maintained a winning run in the competition so far, Sri Lanka will be facing up against Australia for their second encounter in the Super 12s stage at the T20 World Cup 2021 on Thursday (October 28, 2021).

The Lankan Lions, who clinched victories in all of their preliminary round games, also came out triumphant over Bangladesh in their opening game of the Super 12 phase in Sharjah on Sunday (October 24).

The Aussies also made a successful start to their tournament a day earlier in Abu Dhabi versus South Africa. The team from Down Under kept the Proteas at bay in a low-scoring fixture that at one stage hung on a knife’s edge.

But thanks to their bowling attack and middle-order batting, Australia are heading into the Sri Lanka game with an important win under their belt.

Probable Playing XI for AUS vs SL Super 12 Group 1 T20 World Cup game

Australia – Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Sri Lanka – Kusal Perera (wk), Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara

Australia, having won over South Africa, are likely to approach the Sri Lankan game unchanged in Dubai.

The Lankan Lions, however, may consider making one change from the side that won over Bangladesh. If mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana has recovered from his injury, he slots right back in the XI in place of third seamer Binura Fernando.

Prediction for AUS vs SL Super 12 Group 1 T20 World Cup 2021 game

Much depends on the nature of the track and the toss. The surface in Dubai has tended to play a touch slow in the first half for night games and as the match progresses, with dew falling, it has sped up to make life a lot easier for batters.

If that is the case, Australia will be desperate to win the toss and chase. Or else, they could be forced to do the heavy loading against Sri Lankan spinners amid uncertainty around the par score.

However, if the likes of Smith, Warner, Maxwell can help Australia overcome the threat posed by Hasaranga and Theekshana, the Aussies could exploit their oppositions’ weaker suits – their pace attack and the talented but inexperienced batting unit.

Australia is the stronger of the two sides without a doubt and should be able to come out on top in this one.
