Australia pacer James Pattinson ruled out of Sydney Test

Australian Pacer James Pattinson has injured his ribs in a fall at his property and has subsequently been ruled out of the third Test against India in Sydney.

Pattinson had a fantastic outing in the Ashes series in 2019 and his pace, which propelled him to the national side almost a decade ago, caught the eye of everyone. However, the presence of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood meant Pattinson failed to make it to the Australia squad for the first two Tests.

However, ahead of the Sydney Test, Cricket Australia have announced that Pattinson injured his ribs in a fall at his property while on approved leave.

“Pattinson injured his ribs in a fall at his property while on approved leave from the Melbourne (coronavirus) hub following the Boxing Day Test,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

“He will not be replaced in the squad at this time and will be assessed further leading into the Brisbane Test match.”

Now that Pattinson is ruled out, Sean Abbott and Michael Neser are the two other pacers in the squad. Neser, in particular, has been very impressive with the ball lately, with his swing and pace earning him a lot of plaudits from the coaching staff.
