Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali was involved in a frustrating dismissal off a ball from West Indies part-timer Kraigg Brathwaite that he should’ve comfortably dispatched over the boundary ropes.

The dismissal is from Day 4 of the second Test in Jamaica. With Pakistan hoping to quickly declare in the third innings of the weather affected Test match and put West Indies under pressure, Ali and other touring batsmen were seen taking the attacking route.

Not one associated with the big shots, the former Pakistan Test captain started aiming for a few cheeky sweeps and reverse sweeps while the Caribbean attack tried to deny him the pace and length needed to connect those.

In one such over, off-spinner Brathwaite bowed loopy slower balls at him and got him out caught at fine-leg playing an attempted slog sweep.

Pakistan’s defiant No.3 Azhar Ali had a funny dismissal on Day 4 of the second Test against West Indies.

Azhar Ali’s funny dismissal at Jamaica causes laughs among fans

The wicket ball was preceded by a rare reverse sweep for a boundary through the off-side by Azhar Ali, for whom the stroke was so evidently out of character that it felt amusing. With hardly any pace on offer from Brathwaite, the right-hander had to generate all the power in order to get the ball to the boundary.

The next delivery was similar in nature – a loopy, slower ball delivered well down the leg side – but this time, Ali didn’t opt for the reverse sweep. Instead, he played the conventional slog sweep with the aim to get the ball sailing over the fine leg fieldsman Jermaine Blackwood.

However, much to the batter’s disappointment and fun and laughs among those watching from outside, Ali could only miscue the ball to Blackwood despite another painstaking effort to achieve a four or a six.

Nevertheless, by his standards, Azhar Ali’s 30-ball 22 was a positive knock that contributed well to Pakistan’s cause. The visitors, who had taken a first-innings lead of 152 runs, were able to stretch their advantage to 328 before declaring at 176/6 in just 27.2 overs. They even took a West Indies wicket and left the hosts precariously placed at 49/1 by the close of play. Pakistan having lost the first Test, need to win this one to draw the two-match series.
