Barbados Tridents, winners of the CPL 2019 season, begin their campaign in the second game of CPL 2020 against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The defending champions, led by West Indies’ Test skipper Jason Holder, will look to lift their third title this season.

The Barbados Tridents went through a slump between 2016 and 2018 after finishing at 3, 1 and 2 in the first three seasons.

Rashid Khan, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Hales and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were some of the big names signed/drafted for the eighth edition. But Hales, Stoinis and Gurbaz are set to miss the entire season, along with Harry Gurney who was retained. Corey Anderson, Mitchell Santner, Shamarh Brooks and Keon Harding have been named as the replacements.

Titles: 2

The Barbados Tridents have won the trophy twice, in 2014 and 2018. They finished as runner-ups in 2015 and at third place in 2013.

West Indies skipper Jason Holder will lead Barbados Tridents in CPL 2020

Barbados Tridents Team Analysis:

The biggest strength for Barbados Tridents in CPL 2020 has to be the plethora of multi-dimensional players they possess. In an ideal XI, all eleven players can bat and there is a minimum of 26 overs available in the playing XI.

Barbados batting starts with Shai Hope and Johnson Charles at the top, followed by Jonathan Carter at 3. The middle order will constitute Corey Anderson, Kyle mayers, Jason Holder and Nyeem Young.

The absence of top order players Alex Hales and Rahmanullah Gurbaz has left the Tridents in a spot of bother. They can also bring in Shamarh Brooks at 3 and bat Carter a little lower in the order.

Justin Greaves and the U-19 sensation Nyeem Young are also good prospects for the lower middle order. The lower order includes Nurse, Rashid, Hayden Walsh and Reifer, all of whom can tonk the ball with ease.

Overall one can say that the Tridents have superb batting depth in the XI, but they lack quality and reliability in the top4. Shai Hope is yet to establish himself as a T20 player and Brooks does not have great T20 records either.

With Rashid Khan, Mitchell Santner, Hayden Walsh Jr and Ashley Nurse, Barbados have one of the best and most lethal spin attack. They can easily fit in 3 of the four frontline spinners.

The fact that all of them are more than decent with the bat also helps a great deal in providing the required balance to the team.

Skipper Holder leads the pace attack but does not have enough experience in the side to assist him apart from Raymon Reifer.

U-19 star Nyeem Young might prove to be a valuable addition despite being inexperienced. Harry gurney will be a huge miss for Barbados, and they will be looking for the youngsters to step up in the absence of the big guns.

Probable Playing XI:

Shai Hope, Johnson Charles, Shamarh Brooks, Corey Anderson, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder, Nyeem Young, Ashley Nurse/Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr, Raymon Reifer

Expected Finish in CPL 2020:

The defending champions need to play exceptionally well to have a chance for a top 4 finish. The lack of explosive options in the top order might hurt, but they will want the well-balanced lineup to make up for it. Overall, it will not be easy for the Tridents to ensure a play-off qualification, but they cant be written off too.
