BAN vs WI: BCB appoint Sohel Islam as spin consultant

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Wednesday that they have appointed Sohel Islam as the spin consultant for the home series against West Indies. Sohel Islam will replace Daniel Vettori who will not be able to work with the Bangladesh team for the West Indies series.

BCB cricket operation chairman, Akram Khan told reporters that even though they would have liked to have Vettori in the dressing rooom, New Zealand’s strict covid-19 protocols made it tough for the Kiwi to be a part of the series.

“We have run into trouble with Vettori, who wanted to come (for the West Indies series). But there are a lot of difficult formalities when someone returns to New Zealand,” Akram told reporters on Wednesday.

“Anyone going out of the country, has to mention when he or she is returning, and then the quarantine facilities are limited. He is going to join us when we go to New Zealand next month, and in the meantime, Sohel Islam will take his place,” he added.
