BCB set to award Shakib Al Hasan Central contract as ban comes to an end

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are all set to include all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the central contract list from the upcoming home series against West Indies.

Following his ban by the ICC for failing to report corrupt approaches, Shakib Al Hasan was all set to return to represent Bangladesh once again in the series against Sri Lanka, which, unfortunately, couldn’t go ahead due to multiple Quarantine complications.

However, with Bangladesh set to host Bangladesh this time, BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan confirmed that the talismanic all-rounder is set to be included in the central contract list once again.

“We will include him in the national contract the moment he starts playing for the national team and if everything goes according to plan he will be featuring for us in the upcoming home series against West Indies,” Akram told Cricbuzz.

BCB not concerned about Shakib’s form

Shakib’s year-long ban came to an end on October 28 and he returned to competitive cricket in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup, a domestic T20 tournament arranged by BCB. However, his scratchy form has been a cause of concern with the all-rounder with his highest score in the last five innings being 14.

“It is difficult to adjust after coming back from a gap of one year,” Akram said. “He (Shakib) is a great player but I believe he will be back soon. Since it’s T20 format [Bangabandhu T20 Cup] and the time frame is short he is finding it difficult to adjust and as a result he is failing to do well. But soon he will return back to his best,” he said.
