Suryakumar, Ishan receive call-up as BCCI announce squad for England T20Is

The Indian selectors have announced the squad for the T20I series against England, with Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia receiving their maiden call-up.

While Varun Chakravarthy is back from injury while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also forced his way back into the team.

The day Ishan Kishan hit a 93-ball 171 to take the stock a bit higher, some really good news came from the national selection committee meeting for him as he was picked in the national side for the series against England.

Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Tewatia, and Varun Chakravarthy are the other three impressive IPL performers who have made it to the side while Axar Patel has returned to the national limited-overs set-up in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja.

Both Yadav and Kishan were unlucky to have missed out from the Australian series despite putting up valiant performances in the Indian Premier League consistently and the selection is a reward for those performances.

Manish Pandey, however, had to suffer the axe but the return of Rishabh Pant meant Shreyas Iyer has two new partners in the middle as compared to the Australian tour last December.

Sanju Samson’s bad performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy have also resulted in the Kerala player being axed from the side. Rahul Tewatia was another IPL performer who made a cut to the national squad.

Bumrah rested for the T20Is

In the pace bowling department, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, and Shardul Thakur have kept their place in the side and now they will be joined by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with Jasprit Bumrah being rested, keeping the workload management in mind.

The spin bowling department will be handled by Yuzvendra Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel with Washington Sundar sharing the workload. However, there is no spot for Kuldeep Yadav in the line-up.
