BCCI still contemplating feasibility to host Ranji Trophy amid pandemic

Although no concrete decision has been taken in the BCCI’s 89th Annual General Body meeting in Ahmedabad, it has been learned that the board is still contemplating the option of hosting the Ranji Trophy after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is over.

While many state team captains preferring for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, keeping the IPL auction in mind, many also preferred to be partaking in the Ranji Trophy, given the high incentive involved. That was discussed in great detail in the AGM but no conclusion was found from the process.

The BCCI currently waiting for the league phase of the SMAT to get over so that they can seek views of the state associations and then further chalk out the process to host the truncated red-ball season in India. The Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup, in all possibility, stands canceled.

The board hasn’t shut doors for the age-group and women’s cricket this year, with the tournaments slated to run concurrently with the IPL in April-May. That aside, the board is ready to pay the compensation for the loss of cricket during the pandemic.

BCCI Cricket Operations assistant manager resigns

After Saba Karim resigned from his role as the General Manager, Cricket Operations, last July, with him formally leaving the board in January, there were great responsibilities on assistant manager KVP Rao. But the former Bihar bowler has now resigned as well.

As per the report on Cricinfo, Rao informed the state associations about his departure on Thursday. Rao, who was the tournament operations manager for two global tournaments in India: the 2013 Women’s World Cup and the 2016 Men’s T20 World Cup, was the backbone of domestic cricket operations and his departure just ahead of the SMAT will be an issue to handle.
