BCCI officially announces Dream11 as title sponsors for this year’s IPL

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement, announcing that Dream11 are indeed the title sponsors for this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

The statement read, “The IPL Governing Council has announced Dream11 as the new Title Sponsor of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League.”

IPL chairperson Brijesh Patel confirmed on Tuesday that the fantasy Cricket platform had won the sponsoring rights for this year’s Indian Premier League with a mind-boggling bid of INR 222 crore.

Dream11, also co-sponsors for the BCCI, won the race for sponsorship ahead of the likes of Tata Sons, unacademy, BYJU’s, and Patanjali. They bagged the title sponsorship of IPL 2020 due to their financial bid despite the BCCI saying that money won’t be the only factor in the bidding process. It has been said that Dream11 submitted a bid of INR 222 crore, with Unacademy following close with INR 170 crore bid. Tatas and BYJU’s had submitted a bit of INR 180 and 170 crore respectively.

Dream11 replaced Chinese mobile brand VIVO, who withdrew from the title sponsorship following a ‘Boycott China’ trend in the wake of India-China standoff at the Galwan Valley in Ladakh in June. VIVO had signed a deal of 2000-crore plus deal for a five-year tenure (2018-2022).

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected to make an official announcement soon along with the schedule for IPL 2020.
