Johan Botha comes out of retirement to play BBL as Tom Curran pulls out

After Tom Banton, English all-rounder Tom Curran has also cited bubble fatigue to pull out of his Big Bash League stint while Johan Botha has come out of retirement to partake in the competition.

With Seven West Media and Cricket Australia being at loggerheads regarding the quality of cricket dished out by Cricket Australia, another blow hit the governing body’s head with players pulling out of the league on a daily basis citing bubble fatigue.

Tom Curran became the latest player to have pulled out of the league following his compatriot Tom Banton who informed Brisbane Heat of his unavailability citing bubble fatigue.

The Englishman has been a regular fixture in the bio-bubble since July, having first featured in the English summer before flying out to the UAE for the IPL. He then moved to South Africa. With the series ending not confirmed yet, Curran was supposed to join Sydney Sixers for the BBL, but that he feels, is too much now.

“I’m really sorry not to be playing in this year’s Big Bash. As you’ll already know, it’s been a very challenging year and I’ve been in bubbles since July,” Curran said.

“I feel very lucky to play for the Sixers, I have loved my time with you all over the last two seasons and I can promise you, this decision was not taken lightly. I will hopefully be back for many years to come, recharged and ready to go again, but for now I just need some time, normality, see family and be home.

Johan Botha comes out of retirement

Meanwhile, Johan Botha also announced to come back from retirement and turn up for Hobart Hurricanes BBL 2020-21 after Hurricanes’ Sandeep Lamichhane contracted the virus and won’t be available to play immediately. Botha had announced his sudden retirement in early 2019 while playing for the same franchise but now has decided to make a return again.
