Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t need “crowd motivation” to push for wickets

Jasprit Bumrah, who is playing his first Test in India, has stated that there is no bigger motivation than playing for India and he doesn’t need any extra bit of push to get better and better.

On a wicket that was as flat as any National Highway in the country, Indian bowlers had to toil hard all throughout the day, having just three wickets to show against their name.

A couple of those wickets was picked by Jasprit Bumrah – the second of which was a brilliant yorker executed to perfection to get the better of Dominic Sibley at the fag end of the day.

With no crowds to witness his bowling in the first Test he played in India almost after three years to his Test debut, the celebration got a bit pale. But Bumrah is not complaining.

“For me, I don’t need extra noise or something to push myself. It depends on individual to individual,” Bumrah said in a virtual press conference on Friday.

“I actually keep telling myself if I don’t bowl well, how can I pick wickets. There isn’t a bigger motivation than playing for India, this is the best format and my favourite too.

“I accept all kinds of results having done my best. I keep getting better and taking advice from others in order to improve myself,” Bumrah said in the day-end press conference in Chennai.

Bumrah not concerned about lack of lateral movement

Dominic Sibley and Joe Root made the most of the conditions and batted for fun, with bowlers struggling to create chances. Ashwin was ineffective despite Rory Burns gifted him a wicket with an unnecessary wicket. Bumrah revealed that there was no lateral movement for the pacers to cash on.

“This is my first match in Chennai, there wasn’t a lot of lateral movement. The ball got relatively scuffed up early because of the flat pitch. We aren’t complaining about the pitch but aiming to make full use of the resources and bowl well in the coming days.”

“For me, I have played in India but first Test in India, I have played a lot of cricket in India. It’s not completely alien but that being said done, I was happy with my efforts on such conditions. My main focus is what I can do for the team tomorrow and help the team dismiss England quickly.”
