Bumrah to miss Brisbane Test after abdomen injury

Jasprit Bumrah has joined India’s growing list of injuries as he will miss the fourth and final Test in Brisbane due to an abdomen injury.

After Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav ruled out, all hopes rested on Jasprit Bumrah but now he will be the latest man to join the list. He suffered an abdomen injury that might result in the team management resting him for the fourth Test at the Gabba.

“Jasprit Bumrah suffered an abdominal strain while fielding in Sydney. He is going to sit out of the Brisbane Test but is expected to be available against England,” a BCCI source told PTI.

With Bumrah now out of the squad, two-Test old Mohammed Siraj will be leading the Indian pace attack and he will be accompanied by Navdeep Saini who made his debut in Sydney. Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan are in the squad and if India go for a four-man pace attack, they might include both the batsmen.

Mayank joins Bumrah on injury list

It has also emerged that Mayank Agarwal has taken a blow to his hand and went for a scan. His reports are awaited and depending on the condition, a decision will be taken. Mayank was all set to make a comeback in Brisbane with Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari already ruled out.

“India not to risk Jasprit Bumrah in Brisbane. They fear Abdomen injury could worsen, scans done, reports awaited. Mayank hurt at training. Scans are done. Unless there is a fracture he was to replace Hanuma. Scan results awaited,” journalist Boria Majumdar wrote.

The Brisbane Test starts on January 15.
