Rory Burns: Not overlooking a cricket ground from hotel is a massive positive

Rory Burns, who arrived in India earlier than his teammates, will wrap up his hard quarantine on Saturday. He has reckoned that unlike the last summer in England, he is happy not overlooking a cricket stadium in India which he feels is a massive positive for the players’ mindset.

Rory Burns was on paternity leave with England travelling to Sri Lanka in order to complete their World Test Championship formalities, and that resulted in Burns, alongside Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, travelling to India earlier than their teammates.

It also means them wrapping up the quarantine earlier as well and they will kick start their training from February 2.

Burns stated that bubble life has its own set of challenges and he is looking forward to having a couple of net sessions with Stokes and Archer.

However, speaking on the hard quarantine, Burns stated that he is happier because the hotel room balcony opens towards a sea and not a cricket ground.

“The break and refreshment and new perspective that fatherhood brings has just been a nice bit of time to have at home and spend with the wife,” Burns said, reported the Independent.

“It was obviously tough leaving my newborn daughter and wife back at home but it’s part and parcel of the job and I appreciate that. I’m just looking forward to getting going and getting back into work.

“We’re not overlooking a cricket ground and, for me, that’s a massive positive,” said Burns

Burns: Doing practice in my room

Rory Burns, who averages 32.44 in 21 Tests, further stated that is preparing hard inside the hotel room. He stated that even though he hasn’t gone full Steve Smith mode, he is holding a bat in front of the mirror.

“Me, Jof, and Stokesy get a slight head start because of quarantine, but I’m looking forward to having a couple of tasty net sessions with those two coming in at me.

“I’m hungry to get going. I’m shadow batting in a mirror behind me, I’ve not gone full Steve Smith and put my whites on yet! But having the bat in hand and training and those sort of things.”
