The second round of the 2020 Momentum One Day Cup will see Cape Cobras taking on Highveld Lions on Friday at the Boland Park in Paarl. Both, Highveld Lions and Cape Cobras registered impressive victories to start off the tournament. In fact, Lions even bagged a bonus point from their victory against the Titans.
It was Titans who won the toss and asked Lions to bat on a superb centurion track. In return, Titans’ chase went nowhere as several batsman failed to convert their starts with left-arm seamer Beuran Hendricks causing maximum damage with his 4-wicket haul. Hendricks was also well supported by the duo of Eldred Hawken and Aaron Phangiso as they combined to pick up five scalps. This ensured a 73-run victory for the Lions to start off the tournament.
Meanwhile, Cape Cobras brought down Warriors by a margin of 31-runs in a rain-affected game. Current Proteas Test opener Pieter Malan was at his very best as he struck a majestic hundred. With all-rounders Jason Smith and George Linde also contributing 76 and 31 runs respectively, Cobras posted an impressive 274-6 off 49 overs with one over being reduced to rain.
Chasing such a challenging target, only Rudi Second stood up for Warriors with a quick-fire fifty as Makhaya Ntini’s son Thando Ntini starred with a four-wicket haul. Eventually, Warriors were bowled out for 245 to hand over a victory for Cobras.
Given the fact that Highveld Lions have lost so many key players due to international duty, Cape Cobras will definitely go into the match as favourites.
