Chennai Tests : Anil Chaudhary, Virender Sharma set to make Test umpiring debut

The ICC have declared that the duo of Anil Chaudhary and Virender Sharma will be making their Test umpiring debut in Chennai with Nitin Menon standing for both games. While Chaudhary will accompany him for the first dig, Menon will be partnered by Sharma in the second Test.

Ever since the ICC released the Back-to-cricket guidelines for the resumption of international cricket, home umpires have become a regular thing, with the system set to break in the Bangladesh-Windies series where Richard Illingworth will officiate the game.

Given India have four international panel umpires at the moment, it will go on as planned.

“International Panel umpires officiate in Tests too. Recent appointees to the Elite panel – Joel Wilson, Michael Gough, and Nitin Menon — had all officiated in Tests before making it to the Elite panel. India presently has four on the International Panel,” the ICC media panel member told Cricbuzz.

Srinath match referee for Chennai Tests

Javagal Srinath, who is the only international umpire from India, has been appointed as the match referee for both games.

Chennai Tests : Anil Chaudhary, Virender Sharma set to make Test umpiring debut

The ICC haven’t announced the officials for the third and fourth Tests which will be played in Ahmedabad. The white-ball leg of the tour will also be officiated by the Indian umpires.

The ICC has also announced that C Shamshuddin will be the third umpire in the first Test but that will not be considered as his debut given the third umpire role doesn’t come under the gambit of official records.

Chaudhary will be the third umpire for the second Test with Sharma and Menon officiating as on-field officials.
