Chennai set to welcome back fans at 50% capacity : Reports

The BCCI has given permission to TNCA to begin preparation to allow fans watching the 2nd Test between India and England in Chennai, which will kick start on February 13.

After weeks and weeks of contradictory reports and multiple factors threatening to deter fans to watch the India-England Test series, finally, there is some good news. With Test cricket returning to Chepauk for the first time in four years, fans will get to watch the action, albeit for the second game.

Sportstar reported that the board has given nod to the state cricket association to host the second Test with 50% crowd capacity and the tickets will be put on sale in a few days.

“We discussed the issue of allowing spectators for the second India vs England Test following fresh COVID-19 guidelines by the Central Government permitting crowds at sporting venues and also the State Government’s SOPs given on Sunday,” a TNCA official said, reported Sportstar.

“It has been decided by the BCCI and TNCA to allow 50 percent spectators for the second Test by following all safety protocols.

“There is little time to make arrangements for spectators entry for the first Test so the crowd cannot be allowed. Though the gap between the two Tests is only three days, we are confident that arrangements can be made for (50 percent) fans in the second Test keeping the safety norms in mind,” the official added.

Media allowed to cover both Chennai Tests

Earlier, there were questions on if the media will be allowed to cover the tournament, as it was the case in Australia and England, but now the report stated that it will be the case. Both the Tests will be covered by the accredited media but the press conference will be taking place online via Zoom.
