BCCI announces All-India Senior Selection Committee appointments

BCCI has announced an All-India Senior Selection Committee comprising of Chetan Sharma, Abey Kuruvilla and Debashish Mohanty. BCCI held it’s 89th Annual General Meeting in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Chetan Sharma will take over as the chairman of the selection committee. He was recommended to the position by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Madan Lal, Rudra Pratap Singh and Sulakshana Naik. Former pacers, Abey Kuruvilla and Debashish Mohanty had also been recommended to the five-member selection panel.

Sharma will lead the panel on basis of his seniority, having played 23 Test matches, more than his colleagues in the panel. The performance of the candidates will be reviewed after a year based on which subsequent recommendations will be made to the BCCI.

Chetan Sharma has represented India in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs and was the first person to bag a hattrick in the World Cup. Kuruvilla played in 10 Tests and 25 ODIs, whereas, Mohanty, played two Tests and 45 ODIs for India.

BCCI announces All-India Senior Selection Committee appointments

The release by BCCI is as follows:

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Mr Madan Lal, Mr Rudra Pratap Singh and Ms Sulakshana Naik on Thursday met virtually to select three members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee (Men).

The CAC has recommended the following candidates for the senior men’s selection committee panel.

1)    Mr Chetan Sharma

2)    Mr Abey Kuruvilla

3)    Mr Debashish Mohanty

The committee further recommended Mr Chetan Sharma for the role of Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee based on seniority (total number of Test matches). The CAC will review the candidates after a one-year period and make the recommendations to the BCCI.

The three new members will join Mr Sunil Joshi and Mr Harvinder Singh in the selection committee.
