One of the game’s most iconic personalities of all time, Chris Gayle turns 42 today, and tributes and best wishes for the great man have been flowing in. Social media has been flooding with people reminiscing of the great memories he has provided over the years, which includes many big hits from the big man that flew miles away from the playing area.

One such video was posted by a fan, reminding people of an age-old memory. Pakistani legend Waqar Younis is to date regarded as one of the deadliest and toughest bowlers to face against the white or red ball. Not many in the past have gotten hold of his reverse swing exploits and ability to bowl those full deliveries. But when an immovable force meets an unstoppable object, ever-lasting memories are created.

Back in 2002, when Gayle was just three years into his international career, West Indies met Pakistan in Sharjah. In the second ODI, chasing 232 runs, Gayle got the side off to a magnificent start. In the 7th over of the innings, he first smashed Waqar Younis for a boundary and followed it up with a titanic six over mid-wicket, that saw the ball hit the roof of Sharjah on its way out.

Gayle smashed a 46-ball 63 in that game against Pakistan in a losing cause.

Waqar Younis was left perplexed by the sheer audacity and power of the 23-year-old cricketer, and it came as no surprise that he continued to provide many such occasions in the coming future. West Indies lost their way once Gayle was dismissed that game, and Pakistan won the game by 51 runs, but that bout between Waqar Younis and the Universe boss will be remembered for a long time.
