Zak Crawley suffers wrist injury after slipping on marble floor; doubtful for first Test

England opener Zak Crawley, who was touted to be playing a big role for England at the No.3 position, has suffered a wrist injury after slipping on a marble floor outside of the England dressing room. That has put his appearance for the first Test in Chennai under doubt.

Crawley opened with Dominic Sibley in Sri Lanka but the return of Rory Burns from paternity leave meant he was expected to bat at No 3 for the series-opener in Chennai. However, that might not be the case anymore with the Kent cricketer falling on his wrist while wearing spikes on a marble floor.

The England team management are waiting for the scan results to check for the possible injuries and a call will be taken accordingly.

“Zak Crawley did not train today at England’s practice session in Chennai. He slipped outside the dressing room yesterday [Tuesday] and has injured his right wrist. We are waiting on the results of scans and will know more tomorrow, ahead of our final practice,” ECB said in a release.

Pope to replace Crawley with rejig another option

Meanwhile, Ollie Pope, who just recovered from injury, has been added to the squad on Wednesday but if he bats at No.3 is left to be seen. Dan Lawrence and Ben Stokes can do the job but if Root wants to do a rejig of the batting order, then things might take a different turn.

While England are still uncertain about the inclusion of Dom Bess, fearing a long-term dent in his confidence, both Moeen Ali and Chris Wokaes may find spots in the line-up to add extra all-round options.

Moeen, in his most recent Test tour of India, scored a couple of centuries.
