‘Ridiculous’ – CSA mentions Ngidi, ignores Faf du Plessis, Tahir in congratulatory message for CSK

Share

Cricket South Africa (CSA) received the wrath of passionate Proteas fans as it chose to completely ignore two of the countries’ finest in Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir while wishing its players in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp upon their victory in the IPL 2021 final.

As CSK lifted the coveted crown on Friday (October 15) after defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai, CSA hand-picked only pacer Lungi Ngidi, who didn’t even play in the final, for a congratulatory tweet and looked past Tahir and Du Plessis.

While Tahir played only one game for CSK this year, Du Plessis was his team’s and the tournament’s second-highest run-getter and played a pivotal role in the final to take his team to victory. Yet, CSA made no attempt to recognise and celebrate the efforts of the former national captain.

Faf Du Plessis was at pain to see CSA missing him from a congratulatory message – which now stands deleted – and responded to it with a query. Du Plessis’ former Proteas teammate and fast bowling legend Dale Steyn then called out CSA’s social media handler for his massive error.

CSA missed Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir from their congratulatory post for CSK players.

Steyn, aghast at CSA for showing no respect towards giants like Du Plessis and Tahir, then made a couple of tweets to reiterate his disapproval of the board’s attitude and treatment of its own players.

To one of Steyn’s tweets against the CSA regime and its social media handler, former Proteas all-rounder David Wiese, who’ll be representing Namibia at the upcoming T20 World Cup, responded and called CSA’s treatment handed to Tahir and Du Plessis “absolutely shocking”.

Fans react in anger over CSA’s attitude against Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir

Fans took great offence at CSA’s congratulatory tweet which seems to have deliberately missed Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir. Notably, the two cricketers aren’t also part of South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup in the Middle East despite being in fine form and keeping themselves available for selection.

Here is how the fans reacted:

The reaction from fans was imminent the moment CSA made their tweet and the Instagram post, both of which are now wiped out from their respective platforms.

But what can’t be wiped out here is a direct inclination of a rift between the board and two of South Africa’s best cricketers, whose presence would’ve boosted Proteas’ quest to win their first T20 World Cup crown for sure.
