Irish fast bowler Curtis Campher picked up four wickets in four consecutive deliveries in their opening game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against the Netherlands. The 22-year-old born in Johannesburg had a somber start to the game, conceding 12 runs in his first over. However, in the 10th over of the game, he turned things around with a mind-boggling over.

It all started with a short delivery angled towards leg-side. Colin Ackermann tried to pull it away and found a faint edge, collected decently by the keeper. Besides the bowler, no one was excited and the umpire had given it not out. However, skipper Andrew Balbirnie went upstairs upon the young cricketer’s insistence, and a huge spike on Ultra-Edge saw Ackermann walk back.

He followed it up with two similar dismissals to two new batters. The experienced Ryan ten Doeschate walked in first, who has been struggling for runs lately. He was beaten totally by a full delivery at decent pace, and he didn’t even think of questioning the umpire for adjudging him LBW.

Scott Edwards was fed a similar delivery, full and straight at the stumps. Umpire gave it not out as he felt the ball was moving down the leg, but a review from Irish side worked in their favor once again. Curtis Campher completed his hat-trick, and he did not stop there. Roelof van der Merwe chopped it on to his stumps to award him his fourth wicket of the over, making him join an elite list.

Skipper Pieter Seelaar walked and drove it to covers for a single to stop the flow of wickets, but Curtis Campher already became the third bowler in the format history to pick 4 wickets in 4 balls. Rashid Khan and Lasith Malinga did it previously.

Here’s the video of the Curtis Campher chaos that drowned the Dutch in a span of 4 deliveries

The Netherlands have a history of winning the qualifiers tournament and struggling when the main tournament starts. They seem to be heading down the road again, with a poor start to the game once again.
