Dawid Malan in talks with BBL franchise on playing in BBL 2020/21

Dawid Malan, who has had an excellent run of form in the recent T20I matches, has disclosed that he has had discussions with a Big Bash League franchise and is hopeful of playing in the BBL next summer.

Malan, who has scored 108 runs in the T20I series against Australia so far, said, “There has been some contact with one of the clubs. That’s still ongoing at the moment so hopefully we can finish and finalise that soon and hopefully that can get announced. I don’t know if I’m allowed yet (to say which club), so I’ll sit on the fence with that one.”

Malan will join England teammates Tom Banton and Tom Curran in the 10th edition of the Big Bash League if an agreement is reached upon between him and the franchise he has been linked to.

The Roehampton-born left-hander has played in the Bangladesh Premier League and Pakistan Super League among foreign T20 leagues, but says the Big Bash is a competition he’s always wanted to play in. He said, “It looks like a fantastic tournament. It’s something in the (English) winter you really like to watch, it’s a very good product and it’s something I’ve really wanted to be a part of for a very long time.

“Hopefully this can get finalised and I can get an opportunity to play in that. As a player, you want to play all over the world and in different leagues. It’s the only way to improve and learn different conditions. It’ll be a great learning opportunity for me to go out there, especially with the Twenty20 World Cup (in Australia) in two years’ time. If I can get some good experience in the Big Bash, I think that can only help.”
