Dhiraj Malhotra appointed BCCI General Manager

Delhi Capitals CEO Dhiraj Malhotra has been appointed as the new General Manager, Cricket Operations, replacing Saba Karim, whose notice period ended in January.

Saba Karim was a constant figure in managing the domestic and international cricket operations in India – from devising playing conditions to taking care of logistical demands – and ever since he tendered his resignation six months ago, there was a lack of certainty.

However, Karim served a six-month notice period and as it has come to an end, the BCCI has appointed its new GM.

Dhiraj Malhotra has been in the industry for well over two decades and has also held senior positions at the ICC in the past. At ICC, he was responsible for overseeing cricket operations of various ICC events.

“Yes, Dhiraj Malhotra has been formally appointed as GM (Game Development). He will be joining from Monday, February 15,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on Friday.

BCCI confident about Malhotra’s abilities

During his time at the Delhi Capitals, Malhotra was even asked by ICC to help the ICC World Cup events team in England and he aced that role really well.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is confident that Malhotra can easily ace the role to formalize himself in BCCI.

“Dhiraj’s joining Delhi franchise coincided with two of their best seasons, including a playoff and a second-place finish. Also, when he was with DC, he was asked to help out at the ODI World Cup in England due to his vast knowledge.”

Malhotra will join his job, on Monday, February 15.
