WATCH: Divyaansh Saxena chips in with a no-look leave-cum-upper cut for a boundary

Part of the previous Indian U19 setup, Divyaansh Saxena proved himself to be a vital part of the side that reached the final. He is currently partaking in the U25 Shalini Bhalekar Trophy, representing Chandrakant Pandit XI in the tournament. A couple of days ago, during his fixture against Jahangir Pithawal XI, he did something outrageous with the bat, one that caught a lot of attention.

During Chandrakant Pandit XI’s batting, they lost two early wickets and were struggling to get runs initially. Divyansh Saxena, who opened in the U19 Indian setup alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, managed to ease the nerves with a few boundaries and then came a shot which was perhaps never attempted ever in professional cricket.

In the bowling of Saksham Jha, who pitched short to the left-handed batter and angled it inward from round the wicket (right-arm bowler), Saxena appeared to have left the ball, but ended up upper-cutting it over the fine-leg boundary for a four. It took a few seconds for everyone involved to understand what happened, but replays suggested he attempted that shot intentionally.

It was evident that the young batter deliberately raised his bat in the line of the ball to get some contact, and despite trying to make it appear like a leave but the shot in mind of the batter was an uppercut. He wasn’t looking towards the ball when it made contact with the bat, and that no-look element in the shot just added more swag to the entire presentation.

Divyaansh Saxena was in terrific touch in this fixture and chipped in with a big-daddy hundred, further falling in the attention of local selectors. He made 178 runs in 265 deliveries, a knock that included 19 fours and 5 sixes. He had good support from Harshal Jadhav and Atharva Ankolekar, who got crucial half-centuries to drive their side to a massive total of 395 in 98.5 overs.
