The England Cricket team, currently in South Africa, are cleared to go back home after independent virologists, in Cape Town and London, confirm the false positives within the bio-secure bubble.

South Africa suffered a major embarrassment when the first two ODIs were postponed from its scheduled date and later the tour had to be called off with the recurrence of Covid-19 cases within the bio-secure bubble. It added to the fire when two staff members in the English squad found out to be Covid-19 positive, with the squad fearing not being able to return back to the UK.

However, independent virologists, in Cape Town and London, have confirmed that two unconfirmed positive COVID-19 tests are indeed false positives and don’t pose any infection risk.

England players to travel on Thursday

“Following the independent ratification of the two unconfirmed positive COVID-19 tests from the England camp in South Africa, the England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that, following further testing and analysis and do not pose any risk of passing on the infection to the rest of the party,” said ECB Chief Medical Officer Professor Nick Peirce via a media release.

As such, the advice is they are now free to join the rest of the group and are no longer self-isolating,” the media release said.

The entire England squad will be divided into two groups, with one party returning to the UK on Thursday morning while the Big Bash League-bound players will take a plane to Australia.
