England to tour Sri Lanka for a Test series in 2021

Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that England will tour Sri Lanka for a two-match test series in January 2021. The series that was originally planned to be held in March this year, was postponed in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

England were in the midst of playing a second warm up match in Sri Lanka in March when the England Cricket Board asked it’s players to return back home because of the spreading virus. Sri Lanka have not played international cricket since the covid-19 halted the cricketing season.

Sri Lanka were scheduled to host Bangladesh for a three match test series, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board refused a mandatory 14-day quarantine period for it’s players and asked to reschedule the series.

Sri Lanka are scheduled to play a two match test series against the Proteas between December 26-January 7. However, there is no clarity regarding that series considering how abruptly the South Africa and England ODI series was called off due to a few positive covid cases.

Test Series Schedule

January 14-18: 1st Test in Galle International Cricket Stadium, Colombo

January 22-26: 2nd Test in Galle International Cricket Stadium, Colombo

Both the test matches will be played in Colombo with the first test match slated to begin from January 14. Joe Root led his England side to a 1-0 win over Pakistan and a 2-1 test series victory over West Indies earlier this year in July and August. Dimuth Karunaratne, captain of the Sri Lankan test team will be looking forward to a good performance from his team.
