Two kingpins of their countries in an incredibly successful phase, AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni are out of international cricket, but are an integral part of franchise cricket. De Villiers will be playing a crucial role to help Royal Challengers Bangalore get close to their long-lasting dream of winning an IPL trophy, whilst MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings are chasing their fourth IPL title.

Both these outrageous batters have provided problematic times for bowlers in their heydays. Once they would get going, there was no way for the opposition to counter them. They faced that wrath when they came against each other as well, withDhoni launching some big hits in the IPL against RCB whilst de Villiers scoring some big hundreds against India throughout his career.

However, both batters found themselves in a similar position many years ago, at the end of an embarrassing dismissal. De Villiers and Dhoni, both usually known for their presence of mind, failed to keep an eye on the ball and ran themselves out quite hilariously. AB de Villiers’ moment came against Zimbabwe when he tried to clip the ball of the pads and failed to realize that the ball had not gone too far. It was within touching distance from the keeper, who clipped the bails off as AB went chasing for a run.

Quite interestingly, MS Dhoni himself was in a similar situation in the IPL against Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab). He lost sight of the ball when he attempted to heave it towards mid-wicket, not realizing that a bottom edge had taken it straight to the keeper Nitin Saini.

Saini took the bails off, and Dhoni had to walk back.
