Fans evicted from SCG after racism complaint from Siraj

Mohammed Siraj, despite complaining at the end of Day 3, was at the receiving of racist remarks from a group of people at the SCG following which cops and security officers evicted them from the ground.

After allegations of abuse surfaced on Saturday when the Indian team lodged a formal complaint, Mohammed Siraj was the receiving end once again and bravely stepped in and lodged the complaint just before tea. The play was stopped for more than eight minutes at the SCG on Sunday.

“Cricket Australia condemns in the strongest terms possible all discriminatory behaviour,” said Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security.

“If you engage in racist abuse, you are not welcome in Australian cricket.

“CA is awaiting the outcome of the International Cricket Council’s investigation into the matter reported at the SCG on Saturday.

“Once those responsible are identified, CA will take the strongest measures possible under our Anti-Harassment Code, including lengthy bans, further sanctions and referral to NSW Police.

Commentators condemn the Siraj incident

Commentators Shane Warne condemned the incident on air while Bharat Sundaresan, the Indian journalist calling the game on SEN Radio, called the incident a cowardly act by the section of the fans.

“As series hosts, we unreservedly apologize to our friends in the Indian cricket team and assure them we will prosecute the matter to its fullest extent,” Carroll added.
