WATCH: Gayle gets rid of Mitchell Marsh, goes over and gives him a hug to celebrate

One of the game’s greatest ever entertainers, Chris Gayle bid adieu to his international career with the T20 World Cup game against Australia being his last. The Caribbean unit were already out of the contest before a ball was played, and this was just going to be a game of goodbyes, bidding farewell to two of the most prolific T20 cricketers – Dwayne Bravo and Gayle.

West Indies turned up with some disappointing cricket on the day, just about scraping to a decent total on a good batting track. However, there were some split seconds of good entertainment. One of which came right at the end when he dismissed the half-centurion Mitchell Marsh.

In what was Gayle’s first over of the game, also his last in his international career, he managed to dismiss the all-rounder. Marsh tried to clear the close-in fielders, and in that attempt, he found Jason Holder at extra-covers.

Gayle was super-elated with the scalp, and went running in towards the dismissed batter to give him a hug. Marsh was more than gracious to acknowledge, and gave the 42-year-old a pat. Australia did not take a lot of time after that to complete the game as David Warner remained unbeaten on 89 off 56 deliveries, and Marsh’s 32-ball 53 was pivotal in completing the game soon.

West Indies, early on in the day, scored 157 runs batting first. Gayle hit a couple of sixes to roll back the years, but couldn’t do much beyond that. Despite losing Aaron Finch early on in the chase, Marsh and Warner added 124 runs for the second wicket and got the game completed.

Here’s the video of that heart-warming moment between Chris Gayle and Mitchell Marsh.

Having riddled plenty of injuries over the years, Mitchell Marsh has finally made his mark in a major tournament for Australia. He missed out one game as Australia tried out different combinations, but he turned out to be an integral unit for this side. He is batting up the order now and is making a significant difference.
