Harbhajan Singh latest Cricketer to opt out of IPL 2020

After speculations that CSK off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is likely to miss this year’s Indian Premier League, a few minutes ago, news did emerge that the off-spinner will indeed not be a part of CSK this year due to personal reasons.

Harbhajan, 40, conveyed his decision of skipping the tournament to the CSK management yesterday itself. He did not fly with his teammates to the United Arab Emirates in the first place and was expected to join the camp on September the 1st.

A few moments ago, Harbhajan officially made the announcement on Twitter:

Harbhajan is the second CSK player to pull out of the tournament after Suresh Raina, who decided to fly back to India without specifying any reason for the same. The CSK camp has had a COVID-19 invasion in their camp as well, with 13 squad members, including pacer Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad testing positive for the virus.

Due to being affected by the virus, the Chennai Super Kings have been unable to begin with their training sessions, while the rest of the teams have hit the ground running. The schedule for this year’s IPL is expected to be released later today, as per BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan issued a statement from the CSK Twitter handle which read, “Harbhajan Singh informed us he won’t be available due to personal reasons. Team Chennai Super Kings is supportive of his decision and stands by him and his family during these testing times.”
