The speedometer from the opening T20I between Bangladesh and Pakistan in Dhaka on Friday (November 18) completely misread a Hasan Ali delivery, as the ball clocked a humanly impossible 219 kmph.

The hilarious error came to light at the start of Hasan Ali’s first over of the game. Having just dismissed Bangladesh opener Mohammad Naim off the very first delivery from the second over of the opposition innings, Hasan went through his strides for the next ball against left-hander Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The batter flashed at it but missed the ball aimed at the fourth-stump line. As it happened, though, that harmless ball was clocked at a jaw-dropping speed of 219 kilometres per hour.

Speedometer displays incorrect reading, erupts laughter among fans after a Hasan Ali ball

It was clear to anyone watching the game that it was a poor error on the speedometer’s front.

In a glaring error, the speedometer displayed an obviously incorrect reading of the Hasan Ali delivery in terms of kmph. But presumably, this was a case of the broadcasters wrongfully switching the kmph reading with the mph one.

As per the display, the ball from Pakistan pacer was 219 km/h quick, which they also calculated to be about 136.1 mph. If one reverses this, a ball of 136.1 kmph, reading about 219 mph, wouldn’t seem that odd.

That is also a normal, average pace of a Hasan Ali delivery. He is a skiddy pacer, at best, but one who could never be categorised as an express quick.

Leave him aside, even the quickest of speedsters that the world has seen have sporadically gone past the 160 kmph mark.

In modern times, thrilling pace merchants like Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar and Shane Bond could claim to have done so on instances during their playing days. But not regularly.

This is why everyone recognised the failure of the technology to pick the correct speed of the ball from Hasan Ali and laughed upon it.
