I do not think I am in contention for a spot in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup: Umesh Yadav

Indian speedster Umesh Yadav feels that it is improbable that he might make it into the team for the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be held later this year in Australia.

Sportskeeda, in an Instagram live session, asked him to name his ideal XI for the T20 World Cup. Instead of naming himself as one of the bowlers in the lineup, he picked Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah as his new ball bowlers, adding that there will be tough competition between Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar for the third bowler’s slot.

He said, “Bumrah and Bhuvi will be the fast bowlers and it will be a tough fight for the third spot between Shami and Deepak Chahar. I don’t think I am in contention for that spot. As for the spinners, it will be Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal I think.”

Yadav, who often finds a spot in the Indian XI and performs well, when it comes to red ball Cricket, has been out of the limited overs team for quite a while now, mainly due to the fact that his death bowling has let him down.

I do not think I am in contention for a spot in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup: Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav did not select an all rounder in the XI for the World Cup either, as there was no mention of Ravindra Jadeja or Hardik Pandya. However, he chose five batters to make up his XI. He selected the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer in the top five.
During the interaction, the 32 year old Nagpur born fast bowler also added that if MS Dhoni wants to play, he will play. However, he mentioned Rishabh Pant as the alternative to Dhoni.

Umesh, who last played a T20I way back in February last year, against Australia, said, “My T20 XI would have Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer as the batsmen.”
“Then, you have MS Dhoni Bhai. We can’t really say much about him, If he wants to play for India, he will play. If Dhoni Bhai does not play, then Rishabh Pant,” Umesh Yadav further added.
