IND vs ENG: India to pick squad for first Two Tests on January 19

The selection committee are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, January 19 to pick the squad for the first Two Tests against England. The selection for the home series against England will be the first assignment for the newly formed selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma. The meeting will take place over a Zoom Call at 5 pm IST and will also feature Indian captain, Virat Kohli.

With the Indian team doing extremely well against Australia, there will not be many changes. However,  Sunil Joshi, Debasis Mohanty, Harvinder Singh and Abey Kuruvilla besides Sharma will have to check on the injury status of the player.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah are among the major doubts for the England series after picking up injuries on the Australian tour. Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari are out of contention for the first Two Tests along with Shami and Umesh Yadav.

All selectors, except Harvinder who is in Australia are watching the Syed Mustaq Ali from different venues and are asked to keep an eye on first class players ahead of the meeting. The selection committee already made a vital decision of including Sundar, Natarajan and Thakur in the Test squad in Australia.

The second decision was to appoint Rohit Sharma as the vice captain ahead of Cheteshwar Pujara. However, with Kohli back in the squad for the England series, he will resume his captaincy duties with Rahane taking back the role of a vice captain. The first Two Tests will be played in Chennai from February 5-9 and 13-17 respectively.
