India women will put end to a 15-year drought and finally play another Test match in Australia during their tour in September.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the Indian women’s team will play a solitary Test on their trip, which will also feature white-ball fixtures against the Aussies.

While a detailed itinerary for the tour is yet to be announced by Cricket Australia (CA) or the BCCI, the addition of another Test in the calendar is a welcome news for the Indian women’s team, who are also due to play England in one this June.

It’s a rare calendar year for Mithali Raj and company as they get to play two Test matches.

The Test Down Under will be Indian women’s team’s first in Australia since the 2006 Adelaide encounter. The two countries played their first Test against back in 1977. They also contested four Tests in India in 1984 and a three-Test series in 1990-91. But haven’t clashed in a Test match in the last 15 years.

It was Australia fast bowler Megan Schutt who confirmed recently that Indian women are due to visit the Aussie shores in September. Schutt told ‘No Balls: The Cricket Podcast’ that Australian women’s next assignment will be in September at home versus India women. She added that the team will have a preparatory camp in Darwin for the same.

Originally, the series was due to be held in January this year and feature only three ODIs. But a report on the CA website confirmed in December that India women’s visit will be rescheduled in the 2021-22 summer and also expand to include three T20Is.

Before travelling to Australia, the Indian women’s team is set to go to the UK for a solitary Test match, three ODIs and three T20Is versus England from June 16 to July 15. The Test against England will be the team’s first since 2014 when they played South Africa at home.
