India women’s tour of Australia postponed to 2021 summer

Cricket Australia have announced the postponement of India’s tour of Australia to 2021, citing the pandemic as the reason. Cricket Australia promised that the next tour will be an expanded one from the one scheduled.

India and Australia women’s team were initially slated to play concurrently with the men’s teams in January 2021 but the pandemic has thrown a spanner in their works.

Both the sides, who played an epic final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the International Women’s Day earlier this year, will now play the scheduled series in 2021 summer.

“We are very hopeful of delivering an expanded schedule between the Australian and Indian women’s teams for next season, which would be an outstanding result for fans in both countries,” Nick Hockley, Australia’s interim CEO said.

“We had initially hoped to play India this summer, however, the impact of the global pandemic made it necessary to postpone until next season.”

Australia to host an expanded tour next season

According to Hockley, the rescheduled tour will be bigger in length and further games will be added to the itinerary. The dates and venues for the same haven’t been announced yet.

“It will be wonderful to once again host the Indian women’s team, who were center stage for that unforgettable ICC T20 World Cup final at the MCG in March, and to do so with an expanded schedule from what was originally planned.”
