A jam-packed and largely well-behaved crowd at Lord’s had its blip when it came to light that Indian fieldsman KL Rahul has had champagne or wine corks thrown at him. The incident took place during the 68th over of the England first-innings on Day 3 of the second Test where fans witnessed Rahul holding a cork in his hands.

Speculations followed immediately that a member of the crowd or a group of spectators may have thrown the bottle top at Rahul. It seemed that the fielder intimated captain Virat Kohli and the umpires about the same, as the screen had Kohli gesturing and encouraging him in anger to throw it back at whoever did so.

Even though the incident was not allowed to escalate by the officials and the security guards at the ground, KL Rahul was clearly not amused by what had happened. The moment they learnt of the episode, Indian fans wondered if the crowd at the ‘Home of Cricket’ had let itself down and expressed their displeasure over social media.

Indian fans not pleased as KL Rahul has corks thrown at him

KL Rahul has been one of the two in-form Indian top 5 batsmen in the ongoing Test series so far, with fellow opener Rohit Sharma being the other. The right-hand batter has been a player rejuvenated with scores of 84, 26 and 129 next to his name. Rahul’s hundred in the first innings at Lord’s was a great display of patience and resilience under difficult circumstances as he propelled the tourists to a total of 364.
