IPL 2020: DC vs SRH Game Plan 1 – Delhi’s Chance to Win the Middle Overs Battle Against Rashid

DC vs SRH – The eleventh match of the IPL 2020 tournament between the teams, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, could all be about match-ups. We take a look at a key game plan that could play a role in the eleventh game of the IPL – DC vs SRH

DC vs SRH – The SRH bowling

Sunrisers Hyderabad are a team who have been known for their strong bowling which could defend almost anything in recent years. Not only they were economical, but they also kept picking wickets at regular intervals, which ultimately stopped the run flow.

In the 38 overs bowled by SRH, their bowlers have dismissed only 6 batsmen, i.e, 38 balls per dismissal. Compared to the last couple of seasons, they have taken 16.5 balls more for each dismissal.

IPL 2020: DC vs SRH Game Plan 1 – Delhi’s Chance to Win the Middle Overs Battle Against Rashid

SRH bowlers have taken 13 balls more per dismissal in middle overs this season than they did in the last couple of seasons. And the prime reason for this has been Rashid Khan’s decline in wicket-taking ability especially when batsmen are not looking to go after him. He has a solitary wicket in his 8 overs so far and has an economy of 7.00. Not just this season, Rashid had struggled with to get wickets at regular intervals in the recently concluded CPL too, wher he picked just 11 wickets in 10 games on pitches that actually offered a lot of spin.

DC vs SRH – Can Delhi take advantage of this?

Delhi Capitals have a great chance of not just playing out Rashid Khan, but also putting him under pressure by attacking him, thanks to the presence of two hard-hitting left-handers in their middle order.

The DC middle order comprises of three batsmen who have successfully countered Rashid in the past. In Iyer and Pant, DC have two guys who can not only stabilize but also hit the big ones when needed against Rashid. Hetmyer, despite having a poor dismissal rate, has been able to get the better of Rashid in terms of scoring rate. In IPL, Hetmyer has scored 32 off 15 balls against the wrist-spinner while getting dismissed once.

No doubt, DC middle-order has the upper hand over SRH’s prime wicket-taking option in middle overs. All they need to do is use Hetmyer, Iyer and Pant in middle overs without messing with the order too much, starting with Hetmyer taking on Rashid and in case of casualty, they have Iyer and Pant to rescue.

Will be interesting to see if SRH have a counter-plan against the formidable DC middle order.
