IPL 2020: DC vs SRH Game Plan 2 – The Efficient use of Off-spinners and Left-arm Quicks

DC vs SRH – The eleventh match of the IPL 2020 tournament between the teams, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, could all be about match-ups. We take a look at a key game plan that could play a role in the eleventh game of the IPL – DC vs SRH

Delhi Capitals are a side well-equipped to negate the Rashid factor. But is their side good enough to tackle the entire SRH bowling attack?

Three of the top-5 batsmen have been troubled by left-arm quicks in recent years; Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have been dismissed once every 16, 16.33 and 10 balls respectively against left-arm pacers in IPL since 2018. And where SRH have the advantage is that they have two left-arm quicks in Khaleel Ahmed and T Natarajan.

Khaleel Ahmed, though in a small sample space, has been fairly successful against the DC batsmen. Khaleel has dismissed Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan once in three balls each and Prithvi Shaw twice in 13 balls. While the sample is not large enough to conclude, but it certainly is a positive sign for SRH.

In Nabi, they have a bowler who can have an economy of 5.59  and a strike rate of 18.86 in powerplays in IPL. Moreover, he has bowled 15 deliveries to Dhawan and dismissed the DC opener once conceding 16 runs in IPL. Dhawan has scored at a strike rate of 122.40 and has been dismissed once every 17.85 balls against off-spinners in IPL since 2018. Unlike in the game against KKR, SRH should use Nabi in the powerplays and look to get the big wicket of Dhawan.

Khaleel Ahmed has proved to be a better wicket-taking option in middle overs as compared to powerplays. He should be bowling a couple of overs in the middle overs and Warner has to take care of not over-bowling him in powerplays.
