IPL 2020, Match 13 – Kings XI Punjab v Mumbai Indians – Probable playing XI and team news

109

The Indian Premier League makes its way to October with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) taking on the Mumbai Indians (MI). Both teams will be looking to turn things around after heart-wrenching defeats in their previous matches; KXIP failing to defend 224 at Sharjah against the Rajasthan Royals and MI conceding defeat to the Royal Challengers Bangalore after their match went to a super over.

The last time the two teams met was at the Wankhede Stadium last year. With the help of a classy KL Rahul hundred and 63 from Chris Gayle, KXIP set a target of 198 for the Mumbai Indians. Anchored by a knock of 83 from Kieron Pollard and contributions from the rest of the batting, MI sneaked through off the last ball, thanks to a brace from Alzarri Joseph.

In the 24 matches being played between the two teams, the Mumbai Indians lead the H2H record over the Kings XI Punjab by 13 to 11. Mumbai Indians have triumphed thrice in the last 5 occasions of the two teams meeting, with their most recent victory being the one mentioned above.

Team News: Kings XI Punjab

Sheldon Cottrell’s 30-run over against the Rajasthan Royals might just tempt KXIP to play Mujeeb ur Rahman, the off-spinner, who can be a handy bowling option at any stage of the innings. But that would mean the pace bowling department would be hampered, and one of the two Indian spinners might have to sit out. Given the way Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin have performed so far, the prospect seems a tad unlikely.

Probable XI: KL Rahul (c & wk), Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, James Neesham, Sarfaraz Khan, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Sheldon Cottrell, Ravi Bishnoi

Team News: Mumbai Indians

Ishan Kishan’s knock of 99 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore the day before yesterday might have sealed his spot in the side for the next couple of games, at the very least. MI might consider bringing Nathan Coulter-Nile in for James Pattinson if the former is fit.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah
