IPL 2020: MI vs DC Game Plan 1 – The ‘Engine Room’ of the Mumbai Indians Car

MI vs DC – The twenty-seventh match of the IPL 2020 tournament between the teams, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, could all be about match-ups. We take a look at a key game plan that could play a role in the twenty-seventh game of the IPL – MI vs DC

MI vs DC – Pollard and the Pandya brothers

Four-time champions Mumbai Indians take on table-toppers Delhi Capitals in a high-octane clash on Sunday, which is regarded by many as the final before the finals. And rightly so; both teams seem to have all bases covered and are the two most formidable sides in the tournament.

Much credit for MI’s success has to go to the strong finishes they have got with the bat. Except for the first game against CSK when they got derailed after a good start, MI have managed to excel in the death overs in all remaining games and have the best numbers by a distance in the last 4 overs this season.

MI have scored 1.06 runs per over more than the second-best team DC in overs 17-20 this season. Also, they do not lose wickets as frequently a other teams do in the death oevrs; the batting average of 39.1, which is nearly 14 more than the next best is evident enough. Not only have they been able to score the fastest, but also have managed to keep wickets intact while doing so.

When Pollard mentioned the three of them (him and the Pandya brothers, as the ‘Engine Room’ of the team, he was spot on and their performances so far have been evidence for the same. Hardik’s improvement in attacking the pacers, Pollard’s purple patch which started during the CPL plus the platform set by the top order for the finishers have been the major factors which have ensured MI finish strong, no matter how they start.

For Delhi Capitals, they need to make sure the finishers come in to bat inside the first 10 overs and have a task to rebuild the innings. No team has been able to do it against Mi, which has let the MI finishers to come in and take advantage of the set platform.
