IPL 2020: Royal Challengers Bangalore v Kings XI Punjab – Probable playing XI and team news

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have come a long way since their defeat to the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 6th game of the IPL this year. The two sides face off again later today, with RCB coming off an 82-run routing over KKR in their previous game, while KXIP languishing at the bottom of the table, having been unable to win a single match other than the RCB encounter.

KL Rahul’s emphatic ton, the highest score by a captain in the IPL helped KXIP register a massive 97-run win over RCB last month. Before that, RCB had come into the game having won 4 of their previous encounters against KXIP since 2018.

The two sides were tied with 12 wins apiece in the 24 clashes between them until their earlier encounter this year. With the win, KXIP currently have a 1-win lead over RCB, which might get wiped out after tonight, given the kind of form their opponents are in.

Team News: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Harsha Bhogle was spot-on when he said that AB de Villiers taking glovework duties has given a proper balance to the Royal Challengers Bangalore side. Chris Morris’ inclusion has only bolstered them, with the South African returning economical figures in both his outings so far this year, and he hasn’t even been required with the bat. RCB are likely to go in with the same XI.

Probable XI: Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch, Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris, Washington Sundar, Isuru Udana, Navdeep Saini, Mohammad Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal

Team News: Kings XI Punjab

With Chris Gayle declaring that he has recovered from his stomach bug, it is very much likely that he will be making his way into the playing XI. Given that both Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell have been among the runs in the previous matches, Mujeeb Ur Rahman is the one who is likely to miss out. Kings XI Punjab will have to reduce the number of batsmen in their line-up to accommodate Gayle, and Prabhsimran Singh, who hasn’t done much of note, is likely to sit out, with Pooran being returned the gloves.

Probable XI: Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (c), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Mandeep Singh, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Jordan, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi
