IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma hopes Trent Boult will be fit for final

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma says he is confident that Kiwi speedster Trent Boult will be ready for the IPL 2020 final. The ‘paltan’, as the team is fondly called by its fans, had dispatched the Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 by 57 runs to seal their place in the grand finale of world T20’s showpiece event.

Trent Boult picked up what seemed to be a groin injury in the match against Delhi. However, his captain feels that the lethal left-arm pacer should be able to shrug it off and be ready for the title match. “I have not seen him but he seems okay. I don’t think it’s a big problem. It is a big game coming up but we just wanted him to be okay for the next game, a three-day rest and he should be back on the park,” Rohit Sharma said at the end of the match.

Trent Boult has been key to Mumbai Indians’ success in IPL 2020. He has already picked up 22 wickets, including two in just two overs against Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 before he left the field because of injury. He removed exciting youngster Prithvi Shaw and the ever dependable Ajinkya Rahane for ducks in the first over, thus setting up what turned out to be a docile win for the defending champions.

The Mumbai Indians skipper also had words of praise for his other speedster – Jasprit Bumrah – who delivered a career-best performance of 4 for 14 in 4 overs in the same match. Following those 4 wickets, Bumrah took over the Purple Cap from Delhi Capitals’ Kagiso Rabada with a superb tally of 27 wickets, the most by an Indian fast bowler in the history of the IPL.

“When you have bowlers like Bumrah, it makes your life easy,” beamed the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma when asked about Bumrah’s performance. He went on to praise the Bumrah-Boult partnership saying “Bumrah and Boult are in top form. When they play for different countries and franchises, they have different plans. Hats off to them for buying into our plans and executing them so well.”
