IPL 2020: Sunrisers Hyderabad v Chennai Super Kings – Probable playing XI and team news

With the 2020 Indian Premier League reaching the halfway mark, the return fixtures commence from tonight with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on the Chennai Super Kings. Both teams are coming off losses from their previous encounters; CSK’s batsmen let them down against RCB on Saturday and the Sunrisers Hyderabad losing out to the Royals in a last-over thriller.

SRH defeated CSK earlier in the IPL this year by 7 runs after yet another miscalculated run-chase from the men in yellow. Both teams won their home matches last year; the Sunrisers Hyderabad won a low scoring game by chasing down 133 with 6 wickets to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, and 6 days later, Shane Watson’s 96 guided CSK to a target of 176.

SRH v CSK – Head-To-Head

Both teams have played 13 matches with each other, with CSK triumphing 9 times in total. CSK have the unique feat of beating a single team four times in a single edition of the IPL, a feat that they achieved in 2018 by triumphing over SRH twice in the league stages, the qualifier and the final.

Team News – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

The lack of flourish at the death over in SRH’s previous clash against RR ended up against them, as RR chased down 159 with two balls to spare. Abdul Samad might get a recall to replace Vijay Shankar in the XI, and SRH might look to add Prithvi Raj Yarra to add some extra pace to the bowling attack.

Probable XI: David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Prithvi Raj Yarra, Thangarasu Natarajan

Team News – Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings seriously need to inject some intent and firepower to their batting. The likes of Narayan Jagadeesan and Ruturaj Gaikwad have gone severely unutilized due to either batting out of position or falling prey to the situation. Sam Curran, who has been the only promising hitter in the CSK batting order, needs to bat higher up the order so that he gets more overs against the likes of Abhishek Sharma and the part-time leg-break of Abdul Samad.

Probable XI: Shane Watson, Narayan Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Karn Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur
