IPL 2020: SRH vs KKR Game Plan 2 – The Death Over Struggles

SRH vs KKR – The thirty-fifth match of the IPL 2020 tournament between the teams, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, could all be about match-ups. We take a look at a key game plan that could play a role in the thirty-fifth game of the IPL – SRH vs KKR

SRH vs KKR – Sunrisers’ death overs struggle

Sunrisers Hyderabad are a team who have been known for their superb death bowling over the years. Though they haven’t been great with the bat in death overs in recent years, their bowling more than made up for it. However, things have changed and SRH bowlers have the third-worst economy in overs 17-20 this season, after Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders.

As compared to the last couple of seasons, the SRH bowlers have conceded almost 2 runs per over more this season in overs 17-20 and have also conceded 9 runs more per dismissal. Clearly, the performance has dipped despite some brilliant execution of yorkers by T Natarajan and that will be a cause of concern going into the next game.

SRH vs KKR – How have SRH batsmen complemented their bowlers in death overs?

SRH batsmen have scored at 8.61 runs per (the slowest among all teams this season), which is 2.44 runs per over more than what they have conceded. SRH’s difference in scoring and conceding in death overs is the second-worst this seasons season, after KXIP. KKR aren’t far behind, but with the firepower they have with the bat, they will back their batsmen to make up for the relatively expensive death bowling.

For SRH to make a match of it, they will need to sort their issues at the death. With the bat, they might look to bring in a power-hitter in the form of Nabi or Allen, or even Abhishek Sharma or Abdul Samad who are known for their big-hitting. With the ball, they need to get consistent with their line and length and look to pitch in the right areas as they do not have the express pace to trouble the batsmen.
