IPL 2021: Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson pull out of rest of the tournament, confirm Royal Challengers Bangalore

Wrist-spinner Adam Zampa and pacer Kane Richardson won’t be taking any further part in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), their team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) confirmed on Monday (April 26).

The two Australian recruits of the Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are eyeing their maiden IPL title this season, will be missing the remainder of the tournament due to personal reasons.

“Adam Zampa & Kane Richardson are returning to Australia for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of IPL season. Royal Challengers Bangalore offers complete support to them in all the possible way we can,” informed the franchise via its official Twitter handle.

Richardson had missed the entire IPL 2020 in UAE last year, where Zampa also had featured in only a handful of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s matches. But the two cricketers were still retained by their team ahead of the IPL 2021 auction in February.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) confirm Zampa, Richardson not to take further part in IPL 2021

Richardson and Zampa entered the RCB set up after being picked ahead of IPL’s 13th edition for sums of INR 4.00 crores and INR 1.50 crores, respectively. While the former is departing after just one outing in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s campaign in IPL 2021 so far, the latter didn’t feature in any of the fixtures.

Richardson has featured in 15 IPL matches in his career, including games previously for Rajasthan Royals (RR), and has taken 19 wickets at an economy rate of 8.45. Zampa, who has also played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RSPG) in his IPL career, has bagged 21 wickets from his 14 matches in the league’s history while conceding 7.73 runs per over.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Richardson and Zampa aren’t the first to leave the ongoing IPL 2021 even before the halfway mark of the competition. Due to varying reasons, teams have lost multiple players, who have either been injured or have opted to return home instead of continuing their participation in the league. The IPL 2021 is being held in stringent bio-bubbles to ensure the health safety of everyone involved amid the coronavirus pandemic.
